The Nationals Passed their initial test of the exhibition season, successfully hosting a game against the Phillies. They face their next important evaluation: a road game.

It’s not actually a road trip, Only a short bus ride up to Camden Yards and back. No overnight stay in a resort. No flights. But there are various protocols and considerations they must follow for tonight’s game against the Orioles, and at the close of the night, they will hopefully have a better idea what they are in for when they begin actually traveling next week.

From a baseball perspective, Stephen Strasburg Gets his one and only opportunity to face an opposing lineup ahead of it counts against the Yankees on Saturday. It is Strasburg’s 32nd birthday, and he will spend it pitching at Camden Yards for the first time in his profession. (I know, I could not think that reality, either.)

The lineup contains each one of the players who lately joined camp: Juan Soto in left field, Howie Kendrick at first base and Victor Robles in center field. Asdrúbal Cabrera again begins at third base over Carter Kieboom, further evidence the veteran is likely to start at Thursday night’s opener.

You can watch it all, of course, live on MASN, with the Orioles team Calling tonight’s match on site.

From the Orioles’ first match activity at Camden Yards of this season, Mike Elias sat behind a plate with earbuds in and also a radar gun in-hand, giving an interview on live TV.

Together with Scott Garceau and Mike Bordick on the call MASN, Elias spoke Together with the duo about the upcoming season, John Means and many other subjects while the Orioles and Nationals played an exhibition match on the field.

Along with the Orioles general manager and executive vice president is bullish about the league’s chances to complete the 2020 season.

“All of us feel Excellent about the fact that we are here now playing Another staff at Camden Yards, and that I believe we’re going to get to the finish line,” Elias said. “I really feel great about the Major League Baseball set up for the season.”

The season, which shutdown in mid-March, has now featured two Orioles

“We’re just so Pleased to be outside here, it’s been Lots of work to get To this stage,” Elias said. “It was just kind of day-by-day, week-by-week, attempting to guide the organization throughout the time of shutdown, making sure that players were remaining healthy but also attempting to keep them as prepared for a restart as possible. Only working through so many things in a market wide level. It’s like nothing I have ever been a part of.”

So far, the Orioles have had two confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Organization: Dwight Smith Jr. and Anthony Santander. The two players have made a full recovery, though Smith is on the Injured List.

While the team has had any injuries to start the season, another Issue is that the status of pitcher John Means prior to Opening Day against the Red Sox on Friday.

Means includes a sore arm, meaning he can overlook his start on Opening Day.

“I don’t know if I’d describe it as an accident, he’s been projecting Continuously during Spring Training,” Elias clarified. “He’s been throwing tough and comparable to last year in mid-July, he just hit a little bit of a wall. We determined being that it’s John Means and being the season is just getting startedwe didn’t wish to push him out continuously so we chose to pump the brakes and see where he is at here moving into Opening Day.”

Elias added that the team will make a decision probably on Tuesday, and should Means is unable to begin Friday night, he doesn’t think he will have to wait long to pitch this season.

But maybe the most fascinating part of the 2020 year relates to the usage, or lack thereof, of the Orioles’ prospects.

Elias downplayed the option of bringing up catcher and the team’s best Prospect, Adley Rutschman, to the big league club unless the group is in a playoff chase. At that stage, it’d be all hands on deck.

“If we’re heading towards a possible postseason berth, you look at Your best choices everywhere and figure out what you’ve got coming and make decisions with that in mind,” Elias said. “There are a lot of players, him included, that we have brought into this player pool primarily for development reasons.”

Asdrúbal Cabrera again starts at third base over Carter Kieboom, further proof the veteran is very likely to begin in Thursday night’s opener.
