For the 2nd straight week, people get live Sunday afternoon golf with some of the greatest players on earth teeing it up. It’s just that, this time, they are coming from two different sports. The Match: Champions for Charity features Tiger Woods and Peyton Manning squaring off against Phil Mickelson and Tom Brady; it will all go down at Medalist Golf Club beginning when the rain clears up around 3:45 p.m. ET.
This match will increase more than $10 million for an assortment of organizations to aid with coronavirus pandemic relief efforts, and it will feature four of the best to ever play almost any game. They will play in carts (fancy carts in that) without caddies and attempt to keep social bookmarking steps. There will be best ball around the front nine and alternate shot on the back with some unique twists, so be sure to brush up on these.
We are going to see how much rust these four need to brush off their golf clubs, but the competition should be lively and the trash talk will (hopefully!) flow. The Woods-Manning team acts as the favorite, but we’ll see if they live up to this billing. Either way. CBS Sports will be with you the whole way updating this narrative with scores, highlights and analysis from The Match. PGA Tour golf returns on CBS shortly with the Charles Schwab Challenge on June 13-14.
The charity event will feature four of the largest sports names of the previous 50 years.
This represents the second consecutive Sunday that live golf will be on television after last week’s game at Seminole Golf Club featuring Rory McIlroy and Dustin Johnson against Rickie Fowler and Matthew Wolff. Medalist will probably be a bit tougher than that which Seminole was with no wind blowing, which could prove problematic for Manning and Brady.
(The PGA Tour, incidentally, yields from its hiatus on June 11.)
Irrespective of the grade of the golf we undergo Sunday afternoon, the reason is a great one. There has been $10 million pledged from WarnerMedia along with the golfers themselves with more inclined to be raised during the actual event.
Tom Brady and Phil Mickelson will take on Peyton Manning and Tiger Woods for the charity golf match at Medalist Golf Club in Florida. Proceeds raised for the anticipated event will go toward COVID-19 relief.
We can expect an entertaining match with plenty of trash talk between longtime rivals. Brady and Manning have already traded plenty of barbs ahead of the match, so it’s safe to say there will be even more talk on the course that will make “The Match” worth the watch.
Manning and Woods enter “The Match” as odds-on favorites over Brady and Mickelson.
